Greenvale Leisure Centre, Northern Ireland
High performance monocouche render weberpral D has been specified for the superb new Greenvale Leisure Centre, Magherafelt, Northern Ireland.
Following a multi-million pound two-year part-demolition and major refurbishment, the new state-of-the-art sports complex replaces a popular swimming venue dating back to 1971. The decision to partly-demolish the original and dilapidated building was taken in 2010 and building contractor Heron Brothers, of Draperstown, was awarded the main contract. Application of A+ rated weberpral D through-coloured monocouche render was contracted to rendering specialists, Hill Contracts, Portglenone, who work throughout Ireland and Great Britain.
Colour is at the heart of this modern building and here at Greenvale a dashing combination of five colours were selected - Ivory, Sand, Parchment, Earth Red and Azure Blue - from a wider pallet of 12 colours. weberpral D render provides an attractive, low maintenance coat which offers excellent weather resistance and durability whilst allowing the structure to breathe.
Weber is the first producer of monocouche renders to be awarded an A+ rating as defined in the BRE Global 2008 Green Guide to Specification after undergoing an environmental assessment by the BBA. These audited materials help specifiers to make selections that will collectively reduce the environmental impact of their buildings while achieving more materials credits.
weberpral D is just one of Weber's products that incorporates One-Coat Technology. It is recognised for its contribution to minimising programme works by reducing the drying time associated with a traditional two-coat system by as much as 50%. weberpral D can be machine applied reducing application time further and resulting in faster access by other trades. Savings on on-site labour and the cost of associated site equipment is also greatly reduced.
Investment by Magherafelt District Council has allowed substantial extension of the building, including the addition of a 50m pool with splash flume, a sports hall and a fitness facility with a luxurious rejuvenating spa. The Council has worked in partnership with Pulse Fitness, the UK's leading leisure services provider, and W & M Given Architects, Coleraine, to ensure the complex meets the expectations of local residents. Pulse Fitness will operate the leisure centre going forward.
Products with One-Coat Technology have the advantage of factory controlled production at facilities in Bedfordshire and Shropshire where consistent quality is achieved. This means reduced transportation mileage and CO emissions which contribute to the company's sustainability and environmental policies.
