Altolusso House, Cardfiff
Located in the heart of Cardiff City Centre, a stone's throw from the Central Railway Station, the redevelopment of an old college site provided the opportunity for Weber External Wall Insulation technology, to play a part in creating a distinct new city landmark.
Standing at a mighty 23 storeys high, making it one of the tallest buildings in the city, the Altolusso Development by Redrow South Wales Ltd is comprised of 292 apartments ranging from one-bedroom apartments to three-bedroom penthouses. The development boasts stunning views of Cardiff Bay and is a classic example of the stylish city living quarters now sought after by many people.
The design of the building forms a three-leaf clover with three sweeping curvaceous wings emerging from a central service and access core. Whilst this eye-catching design enhances the aesthetic appeal of the development, in the light of such sweeping curves it was crucial for the appearance to be maintained through a high level of flatness and smoothness in the selection and application of the render. Following technical support and guidance from Weber the architects, Holder Mathias Architects, specified the webertherm XM system with a weberplast TF top coat for the Altolusso development. Installation was carried out by Joyner PA Ltd.
The finish coat on Altolusso is weberplast TF; an acrylic based, composite, decorative render finish which will not only give an attractive finish but also provide the building with durability and resilience against all harsh and exposed weather conditions. As any specifier would testify, the practical durability of a render finish system is absolutely vital but not the only consideration; the aesthetic appeal a render provides is also instrumental in gracing a building with a certain attraction -with Altolusso the desired effect successfully achieved was one of grandeur and luxury.
