Achieve 'Industrial Chic' with weber.floor 4650 duro colour

The renovation of floors in a high traffic reception and meeting place at the offices of architectural practice John McAslan & Partners, Euston, London has been carried out by specialist flooring contractor Creation Flooring of Romsey, Hampshire using weber.floor 4650 duro colour screed.

Here the concrete substrate was in a poor condition with significant cracks and fissures.  The client wanted to create a modern, contemporary ‘chic’ appearance which would both remedy the damage and create the visual impact they required.  Kevin Jarratt, Managing Director, Creation Flooring, recommended weber.floor 4650 duro colour, a self smoothing, through coloured light industrial floor compound as an alternative to the specified polished concrete.

“Due to the limitations of the floor levels concrete was not a viable option but we were able to offer a 10mm coloured cement pump screed by Weber which resulted in exactly the kind of design aesthetic the client required and which will require much less maintenance in a high traffic area like this.”  Cost was not the issue here as the systems are quite similarly priced but regular maintenance and labour costs have been saved.

If the level needed to be raised or the substrate consolidated, weber.floor 4660 duro base could have been used. It is a rapid hardening, pump applied screed that can be overlaid in 8 – 12 hours.

weber.floor 4660 duro base improves the adhesion of the screed to the concrete substrate and when correctly installed and covered by a suitable covering like weber.floor 4650 duro colour should have a life equal to that of the building in which it is installed.

weber.floor 4650 duro colour is a pumpable material, rapid hardening and self levelling screed compound and is used widely in retail stores, shop aisles, shopping centres, store room and light industry.  It will receive foot traffic after three – five hours and light traffic after 24 hours. Full traffic is expected after seven days.  It is available in 10 colours: white, off white, light yellow, beige, blue, terracotta, light grey, warm grey, dark grey and black.  In this project dark grey – almost charcoal black – was selected.
