About this product
A high-performance underlayment system to reduce impact noise transmission through tiled floors.
Features and Benefits
- Comprehensive system includes insulation of edges and joints to prevent flanking noise
- Quick and easy to install in large areas-light,easy-to-cutrolls and self-levelling mortar
- Over all thickness of 10mm
- Waterproofed to resist water damage
Constraints
Not for use in very heavy duty areas.
Not suitable for use with concealed underfloor heating.
Maximum tile size is 45 x 45 cm on solid floors and 20 x 20 cm on wooden floors.
Preparation
The substrate must be smooth and have no flatness errors more than 5 mm under a 2 m straight edge. Wood must have no localised movements and have no noticeable movement under traffic. All substrates must be completely dry and clean. The temperature during application must be between +5°C and +35°C
Application

APPLICATION OF UNDERLAY
1.1 Using a cutter or scissors, cut the lengths of underlay to fit the floor and then roll them back.
1.2 Apply the weber.sys acoustic adhesive to the substrate using a roller or fine V-notched trowel (coverage should be 200 to 300 g/m2).
Allow the adhesive to become tacky (at least 5 minutes but no more than 30).
1.3 Position the underlay so that the white side faces down into the adhesive. Roll out the underlay and carefully bed it into the adhesive using a flat blade to remove any air bubbles and ensure a full contact.
1.4 Secure all joints, between sections of underlay, with the BP25N jointing tape.
This is important to prevent the levelling compound from penetrating the joint and forming a bridge to transmit noise.
1.5 Apply the BP50N edge isolation strip around the edges of the room, such that approximately 10 mm is stuck to the underlay and the remainder rises up the vertical wall.
As an alternative to the edging strip in unobstructed areas, the underlay can be pressed into the corner and trimmed leaving a 50 mm upstand running up the wall.
DEALING WITH SPECIFIC AREAS
2.1 It is necessary to apply the edge isolation strip around any other potential noise transmission paths, such as pipes, sanitary equipment, window or door frames etc.
2.2
APPLICATION OF THE LEVELLING MORTAR
3.1 If the levelling mortar is not being applied the same day, protect the underlay from any potential damage.
If the tiling continues into another room larger than 6 m2, make a movement joint through the levelling mortar. This is done by making a dam with two layers of spare BP50N selfadhesive edge strip.
Distribute the self-adhesive thickness gauge pads at equal distances across the surface of the underlay.
3.2
3.3 Mix 5 litres of clean water with each 25 kg bag of levelling mortar, using a mechanical mixer. Pour the mortar onto the floor and even out to the top of the thickness gauges. Around the perimeter of the room, the horizontal areas of the edge strip must be buried by 2 mm, to ensure an overall 5 mm thickness of mortar.
FIXING AND GROUTING THE TILES
4.1 Allow at least 4 hours at normal temperature before fixing tiles. Apply the tile adhesive (weber.set rapid SPF or weber.set SPF) onto the surface of the levelling mortar using a suitable notched trowel.
Bed the tiles into the adhesive with a twisting or sliding action. It is important that the adhesive forms a solid bed at least 3 mm deep.
If the tiles are very large or have lugs on the back it will be necessary to back-butter the tile with adhesive as well. Leave grout joints at least 3 mm wide.
4.2 Leave the adhesive to set, 2 - 3 hours for weber.set rapid SPF and 24 hours for weber.set SPF.
Fill the grout joints with weber.joint wide flex, and wipe off any excess grout immediately with a squeegee or rubber float.
After 5 to 10 minutes lightly remove any residue from the tiles with an emulsifying pad.
Tiles should be wiped with a clean, damp sponge.
Use a suitable profiled edge trim in door thresholds. The trim must be mounted onto the rigid substrate, and not located on top of the underlay. Like all other abutments, it must be isolated from the levelling compound, adhesive and tiles by either BP50N strip or a flexible sealant.
Curing

TREATMENT OF SKIRTING
5.1 Trim the BP50N strip just above the tiles. Fix the skirting boards or tiles leaving a gap of at least 3 mm between the skirting and the floor tiles.
5.2 Fill the gap with weber SL450 or stoneset flexible NC sealant.
Storage and Shelf life
When stored unopened in a cool, dry place at temperatures above 5°C and protected from frost, shelf life is 12 months from date of manufacture.
Health and Safety
weber.sys acoustic self-levelling mortar contains cement.
Adhesive is essentially non- hazardous.
