Primarily a residential development, the building contains 273 mixed size apartments and five penthouses. On the lower floors there are a number of bars and restaurants together with a health and fitness club.
The apartments were designed in four vertical clusters, each containing a mixture of one, two and three bedroom apartments on each floor.There is a communal main foyer at ground level with individual lifts and staircases serving each cluster.
At street level access to the apartment buildings is mainly from a large open public walk through space forming a link to the adjacent office building.
The building is a framed construction with block wall infill panels which are clad externally with the weber.therm XM external wall insulation (E.W.I) system finished primarily in white with selected architectural features in red and blue.
The weber.therm XM system in this instance incorporates a 70mm Rockwool mineral fibre insulation, mechanically fixed to the blockwork. Other insulants in differing thicknesses can be used dependent on the required thermal performance.
Following installation, the insulation is coated with a weber.rend LAC into which a fibreglass reinforced mesh is embedded. A second coat of adhesive is then applied to fully encapsulate the mesh. The surface is then primed and finished with a 1.5mm self colour weber.plast TF layer in the selected colours.
Total EWI surface area for the project was in excess of 12,000 square metres and, at fourteen storeys, was the highest application of expomesh on a new-build project to date.
The Weber external wall insulation system was selected by the architects for its excellent thermal performance, fast track application, effective control of condensation, low maintenance and the technical support provided by Weber at critical phases of the project.
