Bradford West High Rise Regeneration Programme

Two tower blocks, owned by Bradford Community Housing Trust, have undergone extensive refurbishment including external wall insulation work, new central heating, kitchens, bathrooms, windows, doors and fencing. The addition of a wind turbine on the top of each block will generate approx. 3,000 watts of power to light up communal areas within the blocks. This will reduce energy costs, which will be reflected in future service charges to residents.

Keeping in line with the regeneration programmes's energy friendly theme, Weber specified the weber.therm XM external wall insulation system for the development.

With insulation requirements for construction steadily rising, the specification of the insulated render system weber.therm XM will envelop and protect the blocks, eliminating cold bridging and interstitial condensation. The insulation thickness provided will create thermal equilibrium for both blocks without encroaching on the existing living space or increasing the building foundation footprint. Locating the insulation on the outside will ensure that the supporting wall construction falls in to the warm zone and is thus kept warm and dry. The supporting structure will contribute to insulation levels and where masonry structures are present, will act as a heat store.

The refurbishment was carried out with little disruption to the tenants.
