Technical data

Preparation

The metal reinforcing lath may be fixed onto substrates of masonry, concrete, particle board or plywood intended for outdoor use. A water barrier is necessary for wooden supports.

Lath must be taut and well anchored to the substrate (15 points/m²).

Lath may also be attached to metallic studs or struts which are protected against corrosion. The lath is to be chosen and fixed in according to the work to be executed, in strict accordance with the Codes of Practice and in accordance with any special guidelines issued by the manufacturers of metal laths and mechanical fixing systems.

The calculation of the structural support must take the added weight of the render into consideration.

Mixing

weber TXT may be mixed manually in a cement mixer or in a plaster pump. The mixing time is between 3 and 5 minutes depending on the type of machine used. Mix with 5 – 5.8 litres of clean water per 25 kg bag.

Open time: The mix may be used for 1 – 2 hours depending on climatic conditions.

Application

weber TXT can be applied, onto metal lath, in thicknesses ranging up to 150 to 200 mm. It is more generally applied in thicknesses of 70 to 80 mm, including lath. Apply only in temperatures between 5 to 35°C.

In drying winds or hot weather, care must be taken to re-humidify TXT with a fine spray of clean water the day following application.

In order to avoid subtleties in colour, when using a pigmented version, it is advised not to apply the product when temperatures are below 8°C.

Scratch coat

The rendering must penetrate through the lath and completely coat both sides in order to assure a good mechanical key (trowel flatten through the lath when applying manually, the thickness after flattening should be 10-15 mm). There should be no hollow spots between lath and substrate.

Level and key the surface with a flexibletoothed render comb to a depth of approx. 7 mm.

Allow at least 24 hours between coats, depending upon weather conditions.

Undercoat

Apply approx 20 mm of material and level up the coat. If the thickness of the finish coat is to be more than 20 mm, scarify the initial coat. The depth of the key should be adequate for the finish thickness.

Allow at least 48 hours between coats.

Finish coat

The thickness of the finish coat can reach up to a maximum of 150 mm in sculptured applications. The resultant surface finish may be smoothed or float-finished, imprinted, sculptured with a trowel, spatula or knife or with any other suitable tool in order to obtain the shape and form desired. The fresh mortar may also be imprinted.

Supporting studs or struts should be spaced between 400-600 mm max. depending on load.

Scratch coat

The first coat must be between 10 – 20 mm. Key and allow to dry.

Undercoat

Apply the second coat after 24 hours approximately 20 mm thick and allow to dry for at least 48 hours.

Finish coat

The finish coat may be applied in one coat or built up in several successive layers. It can then be shaped, carved, sculptured, imprinted etc.

Additional items

It is possible to fix small, stable, lightweight items directly into the fresh mortar. (natural or artificial stones, terracotta or moulded, imprinted or gauged items made from weber TXT).

When moulding, key the back of the element to be applied to the render.

All elements to be fixed should be soaked in water and allowed to drain.

All elements to be mechanically fixed must have the necessary fixings incorporated at the casting stage.

Storage and Shelf life

Shelf life I2 months in good conditions protected from humidity.

Health and Safety

Contains cement.
