Problem
BS EN 1504-9

BS EN 1504 Principle 11 is concerned with the control of the anodic area by creating conditions in which potential anodic areas of reinforcement are unable to take part in corrosion process. Coatings can be applied directly to the reinforcement to function as anodic inhibitors or to be barriers. Corrosion inhibitors allow migration to the reinforcement and chemically change the surface of the steel to form a protective passive film.
Solution
BS EN 1504-7: Reinforcement corrosion protection
Methods of protection based upon the BS EN 1504 Principle 11 is the use of the following:
-
11.1 Painting reinforcement with coatings containing active pigments.
-
11.2 Painting reinforcement with barrier coatings.
-
11.3 Applying corrosion inhibitors to the concrete
