Cathodic control

Cathodic control restricts passage of oxygen to all potentially cathodic areas when corrosion cells are starved. Weber has a range of special coating that prevent oxygen ingress to the reinforcement.

Problem

BS EN 1504-9:2006

BS EN 1504 Principle 9 is concerned with cathodic control by creating conditions in which potential cathodic areas of reinforcement are unable to drive an anodic reaction. Cathodic control restricts access of oxygen to all potentially cathodic areas, when corrosion cells are stifled and corrosion is prevented by the inactivity of the cathodes

Solution

BS EN 1504-2

EN 1504-2: Surface protection systems for concrete

Limiting oxygen content by saturation or surface coating.

Methods of protection based upon the BS EN 1504 Principle 9 is the use of the following:

  • 9.1 Limiting moisture content at the cathode by saturation or surface coating.
